New Encore Barrel
« on: February 01, 2005, 12:40:01 AM »
I had ordered an Encore Factory bbl in 7mm08, Blued, 24", w/ sights from my favorite gun shop - it came in yesterday. Unfortunately, he's having trouble locating a Walnut Forend that I also ordered to go with it. Its the first bbl that I've added to my original 209x50 setup.

It cleaned up nicely and the bluing is also good.

As soon as I get the forend and find a scope I'll see how it shoots...it'll be interesting given the various threads on Factory vs. Custom bbl performance.

I just need Minute Of Venison accuracy @ 100yds.

I think sometimes we get kinda wrapped up in that whole custom house barrel "must be best cause it costs more" thing. I know I am guilty....I pay big bucks for a VVCG or Bullberry barrel at least in my mind it better be "better". Don't get me wrong all of those barrels shoot amazingly well and really do make the accuracy guarantee. For the specific purpose I bought them they serve it well......most of mine are varmint barrels and require a very high degree of accuracy to perform the task. I have owned factory barrels and quite honestly all but one have been excellent in every way. I had a 14" Contender barrel that would regularly out shoot all the "deer rifles" at the gun range with no problem it was not however an excellent 250-300 yds. varmint gun at least not like my 6mm VVCG or my .221 BB.
I am quite confident that you will be happy with your new Encore barrel and be sure and write back to let us know.
I just bought a factory .204 Ruger carbine barrel that should show up at my house today.
