Anschutz barrel question
« on: February 01, 2005, 02:32:04 AM »
I have a 54 MS and am thinking about shortening the barrel to apply the factory bloop tube with weights......... My question is this. I was told years ago that Anschutz's 22 LR barrels are constricted at the muzzle by a few thousandths. Is this true?????? Will the accuracy diminish if I shorten the barrel???
Thx for your time

It is correct that there is slight constriction at the muzzle on the match barrels.

As far as hurting the accuracy - the only definitive answer is "maybe or maybe not".  If I had an extremely accurate barrel then I would be reluctant to change anything, if it is only so-so then it probably won't hurt.

Much better to shorten the chamber end and have a benchrest gunsmith do a Bentz chamber in it.  I think you may well pick up some accuracy as Anschutz seldom seems to get the chamber correctly in line with the bore axis.  I have had this done on several Annies and the accuracy was always better after the operation.  Regards...g
