First time exotic hunting questions.
« on: February 01, 2005, 06:00:17 AM »
Hey guys, I've been reading a lot about exotic hunting lately and am fascinated, though unsure its for me.  My main motivation is I would love to go on a hunting trip and exotics seem like the most economical choice.  I live in southern N.H. and want a place close enough to drive to, so I've been looking mostly at Wild Hill Preserve for boar or one of their various rams or goats.  The prices on rams and goats are great but has anyone actually tried any meat?  Is a mature spanish/angorra goator corsican ram worth eating? I would hate to waste the meat.  Anyone hunt at this reserve lately?

I would like something with a higher success rate than the public land white tail hunting I'm used to and something unusualy would be exciting.  But I don't want to drive around in a truch, have my guide point to an almost tame animal and I simply shoot it. I don't care about record books but would like a representative male, i.e. half-decent horns/boar size/ tusks.  Money is my main concern, 800 tops,500 better. Maybe i'm asking for too much.  Thanks.

Exotics

We started Bowhunting exotics & hogs 3 years ago to extend our Bowhunting season & it is great.  We travel to Texas & Oklahoma mostly & Bowhunt day lease ranches.  Cost usually runs around $100 a day for hogs with lodging & stands by feeders.  some have package deals for Exotics & hogs with no trophy fees (those are the ones we Bowhunt).  Example of one of our favorite places is $700, 4 days lodging, stands & you are allowed 1 Exotic & 2 hogs. They take you out & bring you back from the hunting area.  Exotics are Fallow Deer, Various Rams, Axis & Sika Deer, Blackbuck or you can Bowhunt another 3000 acre section for Buffalo-4 days-guided-Bull or Cow (your choice) for $800.  We have Bowhunted several other places also (we made a video about all the Bowhunts- "NO CLOSED SEASON" Exotics & Wild Hogs.)
We have eaten all of the animals we have taken except the Rams-we do not care for the taste & donated them to families that make tomallies out of them.  Good luck-sorry I can't help you with any information out east.
We are headed to Texas end of March for 8 days of Bowhunting 3 different facilities & the start of our 2nd video on Bowhunting Exotics & hogs.
always thankful
