6.5 TCU to 6.5 JDJ
« on: February 01, 2005, 07:03:14 AM »
I was wondering what the barrel twist rate is for a 6.5 TCU?  Is the twist rate good enough to have it rechambered to a 6.5 JDJ?  I think SSK uses 1-8 twist in there 6.5 custom barrels.  Will the 6.5 TCU twist rate stabilize all bullet weights?

Thanks

My t/c book says 1/8 twist for the 6.5 tc/u.That should do for most 6.5 bullets. My 6.5 JDJ dotes on 120 grain bullets.85's run about 1 moa, 140's are slower and less accurate than any other weight.I've tried. The 6.5 is good for ground hog thru deer with the 120's

Thanks for the information.

Buddy of mine who lives in Alaska uses his 6.5 on caribou.

My VV 6.5tcu barrel is a Douglas 1-9" twist.  It shoots 120 grain and lighter with superb accuracy.  I would want the faster 1-8"  twist if I were planning on 140 grain or heavier as a steady diet.  Seeing as I use it for hunting and not silhouette shooting, the 120 is just dandy.

My 6.5 tcu is a factory barrel with a 1 in 10" twist. I have tried nothing heavier than 120 gr. yet. I think T/C made them in different twist rates.
