IVe got a marlin 336 dx 3030 24 inch barrel half mag. Ser. no. 640256 anyone know what year it would have been built

Are you sure the first number is a 6, or might it be a G. It its a G, that would make it 1950. From your description, sounds like the 336a made during that era.

I've only seen one from that era, but best I remember it had a plain stock. Your's is probably a deluxe version. I'm only going on what I've read on several different forums, but they're supposed to be great shooters. But anyway, if the first number is in fact a G, then it would be 1950.

The one I did see was a 49 model SC, and it was pretty rough, asking price $179.

I believe the "dx" in the '336dx' you describe stands for 'deluxe', hence the nice wood.
