friend has a 12" bull T/C Custom shop barrel without any brake. Does one have to download too much to still be a useable pistol barrel? Small amounts of powder in large capacity cases is not good thing. I've heard a setup like this is one that most shoot 'one time' and sell. The present owner is just a trader and not a pistol shooter so he has no imput but agrees it might be a 'one shot and sell' barrel.
I've had 44 mags [3 SBH and 1 RDH]and a Super 14 in .35 Rem and 45 Win Mag.
Tell me about shooting the 12" 45/70...!..and what you think about the $175 asking price. no forend, or open sights,,just an as new blue 12" bull barrel.
thanks, alan in ga.

I've shot the 45/70 in both that configuration and in the carbine. I much prefered the handgun version.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I would definately not be for the recoil shy, but in a 12" tube, it's very much manageable as long as you don't overload.  I loaded a 300 gr hornady HP over what I thought to be 52 gr H322, which is a mid range load based on a couple of manuals I referenced.  I ended up pulling them after the first shot.  Turns out I had more like 65 gr instead.  Didn't hurt the gun, I've shot it many times since, but I thought I had broken my hand.  That was my first, and hopefully my last, reminder to pay very close attention to what you're doing when reloading.

Friend has 44mag 45-70 12" barrels says the worst kick is the 44mag.  I have an encore 12" 454 barrel myself to shoot is not unpleasant but would not want to shoot  all day.
