Model98 sent from Germany
« on: February 02, 2005, 04:01:28 PM »
My dad sent this gun back in 1944,while spearheading thru Germany.  I know very little about militrary guns.  It  has a 44 on the top reciever ring .  All the parts are stamped with the same #  40**.   I shot the gun 30 yrs ago with my dad.  It shot really well.  Now what do I do with it..  He had somebody put a classic stock on it but thats alll.  Thanks

Simple get some ammo and take it out and enjoy it!
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Do you still have the original stock? This rifle would be worth quite a to a Milsurp collecter if it's in good condition, in the original configuration.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

Hey Guys!!!
He mentioned that this k98 had a '44 stamped in it and that sounds to me to be the late war issue manufacture.  Don't those late-model k98's have some concerns with possibly poor workmanship (subscriptive workers) and heat-treating.....just asking that it might be prudent to have a gunsmith check it over first for safety sake!
