They said no, and I respect that decision.
« on: February 03, 2005, 03:52:58 AM »
I went to a new gun shop last night and they had one of those stainless Ruger Bisleys in 45LC that I've been drooling over. I went home and talked to my guns about it and they said I probably wouldn't use it enough, and how I hate to own stuff that I don't use enough.

The rifles and shotguns had a moderating influence in this discussion and could be the most objective because they fit a completely different niche.  The target pistols made good points also because they reminded me that I use them most of all and seem to value their company a lot.  The double action revolvers were somewhat vindictive about it, reminding me of what happened to the other Rugers I've owned.

This all made sense to me, and now the matter is put to an end.  I guess it was just not meant to be. It's good to have the counsel of experienced  and trusted guns to assist in making such decisions.

Sounds like a good reason to buy the Bisley. Then the other guns will have to shoot better in order to earn their keep. A little competition will do them good. Sounds like they're getting too cozy in there. hehe

I have been having the same conversation only it is with the ghosts of guns that are no longer with me.  I keep looking at this BH 41 Mag with a 4 5/8" barrel.  Always wanted one.  Then I remember that BH grips are to small in my opinion.  Then there is the 41 Bisley I sold because I did not like it.  Then there is the fact that I have never had a Ruger that was up to my accuracy standards.  That gun still appeals to me, but the rememberences of guns past is getting in my way.

Rudy I suspect your guns would approve if you purchased a new Freedom Arms revolver. Oh they might feel a little hurt since it would be somewhat upscale to them but I'm betting it would still talk with them and be friends after awhile. They would just have to get used to a more accurate gun being around.

I checked with them and they said "sure", but it has to be presentation grade, so it'll have to wait.

Targetshooter:

It's actually the other way around. The old guns shoot fine. New guns have to fit in.

Omigod, I do hope there are no "antis" lurking here!

Dusty:

It's worse than you think. I've got two Italian target pistols and one Swiss target pistol that are all antis. And yes, they're as misinformed as any other antis.  But they shoot good so we manage to get along OK.  It's hard to allow an antigun gun the dignity of its own arguments when it doesn't have a safety of any kind and has a crisp two pound trigger pull.

I think all of you guys have been sniffing to much powder!  Just to prove I'm not affected by this mania I going out tomorrow and buy that nice used .41 BH with the 6 1/2" barrel I've been coverting for a couple weeks now.  Someone has to show some discipline and selfcontrol around here.

I'm glad that my guns don't think like that.
While they are kind of cramped for space in my safe, they tend to welcome any new friends that want to move in.
I like friendly guns. After all, cant they all just get along?

They`re just jealous of that purty engraved receiver and fancy adjustable sights.  If`n you wuz to offer them a stainless Bisley Vaquero .45 Colt like the one listed in the classifieds, I think they`d take right to it.

The answer is so clear I'm surprised you didn't see it.  Your guns have a communication problem!  They don't understand what you're saying.

i think you need to regain control of the situation.   would you let your children decide such vital subjects?  no,  you need to re-establish control.  were it me, i would 'talk' them into it.  just like i used to 'talk' to those i outranked.    a little something like...  "  you worthless bunch of rusting iron.  ungrateful bunch of loathsome metal.  question me?  why i oughta...;  have you forgotten where YOU came from?  you think the cotton picking stork dropped you off into the cabinet?  IF IT WERENT FOR ME, YOU ALL WOULD BE RUSTING UNDER THE SEAT OF A PICKUP SOMEWHERE!!!  pitted with rust,  action gritty, covered in dust. and probably no shot often, either.   why, i work, and i slave, just to get enough ammo to make it from one week to the next; and THIS is the thanks i get.   the next one of you that so much as even thinks about disagreeing with me is going to the brother-in-law's.   when i want your opinion, i'll give it to you.   now move your tail over, and make room for your new roommate! Revolvers are like rabbits.  Ive just bought one for the fun of it and now all my other guns are complaining because they (the revolvers) are occupying too much of the gun safe.

:cb2: Remind them that a new gun is cheaper if you TRADE IN old guns that are giving you trouble, or that you don't want to shoot any more. (They're not that smart. They'll believe you.)

I'd go for it. Tell the others that you will still love them and explain to them how this one has no place to go. By the time you finish with that sob story...they'll be begging you to go pick it up. Course then some might want to go down there with you to pick "it" up. I'd let them, but let them know they'll have to wait in the car or pickup. On the other side of the coin...if ya got any giving you a hard time...take them to the side and explain what it's like on the bottom of the river. I'm sure they'll see the light then.  :-)
