Uberti 1873, .22 Cal Carbine??

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this gun?

I have never seen one but I have one comming my way via an internet auction, looks like a nice gun to plink with.  Do they shoot OK, did I waste my $$$..Tell me..

Hmmm. I had no idea that Uberti made a .22 cal 1873. Is it something new?

I don't think it's something new, but rather old.  There is no mention of it on their web site or any of the places that sell Italian parts.  I did a google search and didn't turn up much either.  I guess it's something they tried years back and it didn't catch on, hope that's not because it was junk!!!

I remember many years ago a "Yellow-Boy" (model '66 style?) that was available in .2LR or .38 Spl.  Dixie used to carry them.

It just so happens that in the March 2005 issue(#218) of "Rifle" magazine there is an article on the Uberti 1873, authored by Brian Pearce. The test rifle is not chambered to the .22, but might serve you as good reading material.

Howdy 1860,

THat sure sounds like one fine rifle. I believe they were made in the 1980's to early 1990's time frame.  

I was looking for one a few years ago since I felt the extra weight would be good for NRA Cowboy Smallbore Silhouettewhich is fired from the offhand position.  Besides, it is a replication of the historic original '73's that were made in .22.

I didn't have any luck finding one so a bought a 39A Marlin made in 1949.
It's a sweet shooting rifle but it is no neat .22 '73 Winchester.

Have fun with that new rifle. Hope to see it sometime.

I'll let you guys know what it's like (if) and when I see it, I'm so mad I could spit in my FFLs eye.  

When this deal came up, my normal FFL was in Florida, I could have waited until the 22nd of this month but I figured I'd try a guy at my gun range that everyone there likes, to speed things up.  I call him, tell him my regular guy is out of town and he says no problem and sends out his forms-(actually I have 2 guns comming in this deal).  The sellers get my money and his paperwork, foreward me tracking numbers, all is going great...Right?...Wrong!!!  About a week after they ship I have not heard anything from this FFL so I email him asking what's up....Guess where he is????  Freekin Florida on vacation...Could the guy let me know that he was planning on leaving,,,Nooooo...He wanted that 20 dollar transfer fee so bad he didn't even mention it...So now my nice 73/.22 is hopefully sitting on some shelf, somewhere at a UPS depot, waiting for this jerk to get back(23rd of Feb)...and that's a best case senario...I'm normally a pretty calm type of guy but this has me steamed..The other gun is a brand new Colt Opentop...

Jack, I'll email ya soon, let me know next time your taking a business trip and hopefully we'll both get to try it..
