Howdy. Some feller up here has a closet full of NIB marocchi valley combos he purchased from a defunct gun store. They are all in 30/06 under 12. Anybody know what they are worth, and what sort of quality to expect from these Italian made combos? Thanks for your input.

Never heard of this combo, and I've heard both good & bad on Italian made guns, so it's hard to say. Does he have any paperwork you can check out, and perhaps find a website? Can you handle the gun to try to draw a conclusion? What is it comparable to pricewise? Is it expensive, or reasonable. If you can't get any info, I'd look the gun over carefully, check out the quality, you do have other combo guns to compare it to, and draw a conclusion from there, depending on the price. Sorry I can't help you more.

Howdy. Apparently the Valley Combo has been out of production since 1994. Here is a web link to the company now. The Finn classic is the line that replaced the Valley combo.

The price is the same as our Canadian importer charges for the Baikal combos.

YKD, do you know of a distributer for the US that carries the Finn 512S. They seem very interesting and may (just might) quench my thirst to get into a combo gun...Thanks...RW

After looking at the website it seems as if the Finnclassic is a relative of the Tikka 512/Valmet 412. Does anyone know anything more about these guns? Is there a US distributor? Is it possible to purchase a rifle from Canada? Looks like a very good looking alternative to the disappearing Baikal and used Valmet market.

Howdy again. I know Marocchi was sub contracted to do combos for Tikka at one point - have seen them on the auctions. The only Marocchis I have seen on the market are on AA and Gunbroker. They were OU shotguns for well over $1200 US used. The pictures I have seen of the combos are pretty impressive. Finely finished firearms. I don't know anything about importing Canadian guns into the US. It is done a lot because of our new gun laws, the market is poor up here. There are lots of firearms headed down south. I am importing two from the US, however, and it is a 4 or 5 month process.

Valmet sold all of the 412 tooling ect.. to Sako/Tikka, and Tikka started building combo's in Italy??? Anyway, i wasn't happy about it, and never owned or sold one.

The opinion in Europe is that they are inferior to the original Finnish Valmet.

Better get a good second hand Valmet.

Note that the 30.06 for a combination gun has the disadvantage of no rim and a higher pressure that can put some strain on these guns designed for the 8X57JRS and 9.3X74 which run at lower pressure although the 9.3X74 is more potent.

Thank-you very much for your European perspective on these firearms. It is good to get the low-down from your side of the pond; after all, combo guns are a European art. With the North American attitude of more firepower, combo use and construction is not understood to your extent.

Hi all,

The 30-06 chambers and throats can be on the big side in a Valmet to lower the pressure a bit. No matter, any one of them i worked with, really shot great!!!

The extractors work well on the 30-06 too, and push right into place on the rimless case, no problem at all!! I like rimmed cases, but the 06 never scared me away from useing it because it was rimless.

I was worried when Valmet sold the 412 line, i had a feeling the quality would go down!!! The steel Valmet used was of the highest quality, and that's not always the case from Spain, Italy ect...

Note that you should stay away from light alloy receiver in combo gun especially in 30.06 or the new .30R Blaser (which is an extended 30.06 with a rim).

Some Krieghof blow up in the past and they went back to all steel receiver.

Combo gun are quite common in Europe because hunting seasons for small game and big game overlaps.

So if you go for pigeon or ducks and you come across a deer, fox or boar you have a rifled barrel to take care of it.

Now you got to be carefull not to shoot the pheasant with the bullet and the boar with the pellets :-) !

It can also be used as a double if not triple gun loaded with slug.
