Differernces in G2s
« on: February 05, 2005, 02:07:33 AM »
I was part of a discussion a while ago about the fit of a forearm on a G2 frame where it fit on my frame but not on anothers.  The problem was interferience with the back sides of the forearms.  We concluded that there was a difference in forearms and mine must have been a little shorter.  I got another G2 frame yesterday and quite by accident found that the forearm that fits my other G2 needs to be modified to fit the new one.  Further my first G2 frame seems to be far more forgiving about old barrel fit up.  Most of my barrels don't want to work with the new frame.  I am surprised to find this much variation in frames.

Any one else see this?  Later today I am going to try them side by side to make sure I am not seeing things.

I only have one G2 frame so I can't speak to this.  Take some careful measurements and tell us all about any differences you find.

G2 wood

I have two G2 frames and although I have not noticed any obvious differences in them (haven't taken any measurements)----and barrels exchange properly, the factory grips and forends are slightly different in bulk and shape--- first set of wood was very early production. pg

I had time today to compare the two, and here are the results:  They are the same.  The forend I thought fit on the first one fits neither.  I had it confused with another forend that does fit both.  I spent the morning with three barrels (two of them G2) and a stone and have all working now.  The newer frame apparently is a closer fit than the first.  They are all working now.  I have to take a good look at the other forestock and see how much carving it will take to make it work.  So much for that...
