45 cal ?
« on: February 05, 2005, 06:23:47 AM »
I was at SSk web site checking out the 460S&W. Says you can shoot 45's and 454's also. Went to one of my catalogs and started checking out 45 cal slugs and realized there were .451 and .452 diameters. Whats the deal on this? Not a 45 buff so which one does the 45 shoot?

I believe rifle 45 cal is .458 and pistol 45 cal is .451 (or 2) just like rifle 25 cal is .257 and pistol 25 cal is .251.  How this translates to the 460 S&W I'm not completely certain but I believe it is a pistol caliber and thus would be .451 (or 2).  I'm sure someone with real experience will chime in.

I use two bullets in my FA .454 Casull revolver---Hornaday 300 gr XTP Mag and Cast Performance 360 Gr hardcast lead---both are .452 diameter---.460 S&W supposedly uses same. pg
