Is this brand any good? I was having a little trouble getting pyrodex to burn in my GPR flinter. I am priming with 4f Geox, but i see the price on graffs seems very good. Also which number f should i use for the main charge?

TAD...............I did not see in your post what it was that you were shooting. I have not had any experiance with this powder but someone on here will have something for you. Most will shoot a 2f or 3f as thier main charge granulation. If using 3f,that also can be used for priming the pan. Stay safe...King

As a general rule, BP substitutes don't work well in flintlocks.

If I could offer an opinion from personal experience, since you're considering ordering powder anyway, get Goex FFFg (3F)...it's fast, clean, accurate, reasonably priced, and the odds are that you'll never use anything else after you once try it...

Thanks Roundball, so wheres the best place to get Geox? I dont think i saw it listed in graf's catolog. :grin:

They used to carry it...I've bought it from them a couple years ago...I've switched to buying it by the case for $9/Lb delivered from J&JPyrotechnics, Moscow, PA.

But if a case is not something you're interetesed in right now, another place that sells loose cans is PowderInc...(5 can minimum) When I order BP, I get 1 can of 4F, then the rest 3F (and/or some 2F)

I've been using the Graf powder for about a year now. I'm very satisfied and find it to be every bit the equal of Goex. I've done chrongraph testing with it and it shoots a bit faster than Goex. In my tests the Swiss powder was faster than any other tested. Here's the results:

1494 Only one good reading due to sun on chrono

I shot some Goex 3f that day also but the sun was playing havoc with my chrono by then and could not get any beleivable readings.

i see Grafs does sell Geox- just didnt see it the other day. Also it seems to be a good price- $10.59 Lb. Using true black should help the ignition problem in my flintlock. I guess i will just have to get some and see! :-)
