My arsenal includes the following:

A 239 in .40 S&W with barrel and mags for .357SIG.  I only load for the .40 at this time, so have only fired it as a .40.  What little I
ve used it, I like it.

Another 220 shooter here. Works all the time every time since '96. More accurate than most!

Some people say Sigs are ugly. I like the looks of a Sig-all business. But then I like my glock too. Some of my buds say there is no pride of ownership with an "ugly" gun, but at the range I get at smaller group every time with my Sig against his Beretta. What can you say about a handgun that never jams and is accurate. Some 1911's jam with funky hollowpoints (not the newer breed of 1911's-Kimbers, Paras, New Springfields etc) Have never been able to make my sig 220 jam by limp wristing, turning sideways etc. It just works. I trade guns from time to time but never the Sig.

I've got  a Sig P220 that I've carried off and on as a LEO.  It's a great weapon. Even tho these days I carry mostly kimbers I'll never part with my 'ol sig.  The only complaint  I have with it is that the finish wore off really quickly. I've had it parked and am think about a robar finish next.

Would like a 226 to round out my sig corner...........

I have nine SIGs at the moment. I started carrying my first SIG P220 in 1978.

That one is still in the safe. Next to it are 2 more blue P220s in 45 ACP, one P220 in 38 Super, a P220ST (stainless), 2 P229s one in 357 one in 40, P239 in 357 and a P226.

Your 1978 Sig 220

Does your 78 model Sig have the old European style heal mag release? Weren't some early Sigs marketed by Browning as a Browning BDA model?

Southernshooter,
Yes, Browning was the original importer of the Sig Sauer P220. Mine is a Browning BDA in 45 ACP and factory nickel. I removed the plastic Browning marked grips and installed smooth wood from Hogue.

Slightly over 9000 came into the US marked as BDAs. Just over 6000 of them were in 45ACP with the bulk of the remainder in 9mm and a smaller number in 38Super.

SigArms was formed and is the current US importer of Sig Sauer pistols.

All of the early P220s had the magazine release in the heel of the grip. SigArms introduced the P220 American in the 80s. Both versions were offered for a while, eventually the European style release was dropped from the US market.

In Europe the P220 was available in 6 calibers and you could buy conversions for your frame. The calibers were 45 ACP, 38 Super, 9mm, 30 Mauser, 22 LR and I always forget the sixth I think it is 30 Luger.

Hello all,

I currently own two Sig 220's.  One has been totally reworked by TJ in California, and the other one soon will be sent to him as well.

I've shot just about everything out there, and have found nothing better.
I've taken my Sig's to Thunder Ranch twice and never felt at any type of disadvantage no matter who or what I was shooting against.

TJ takes what is, in my opinion, the best out of the box personal defense gun available, and makes it better.  I cannot count the times I've handed my reworked Sig to an "Expert", and watched them get that dreamy smile look on their face while firing it.  Sometimes it's hard to get them to hand the gun back.  That's why I have the second one! :)

I am not alone in my belief that Sig's are the best out there.  My wife now will not consider carrying anything but her beloved 239.  She's getting ready for her upcoming Thunder Ranch Ladies Defensive Handgun class this summer.  While there, she'll get to shoot alot of different guns.  I do not doubt, however, that she will come back convinced more than ever that Sig's outperform, outshoot, and outclass everything else.

Should you wish to check out some of TJ's work, please feel free to check out his link on my webpage.  He's not cheap, and he doesn't go for small talk.  What he does, he does well, and you will not be disappointed.

Also, if you need a great holster for your Sig, check out Little Feather Leater at  http://www.littlefeatherleather.com/
The chief also knows what's what and will not steer you wrong.

Happy shooting!

Sig 220 cult following
« Reply #12 on: April 09, 2003, 12:22:11 PM »
I read in anouther forum that there is kind of a cult following of the Sig 220. I have never heard that before, but they are kind of addicting, like a 1911 in a way. The only drawback is that after so many years without a malfunction,  if somebody was shooting at me and I did have a malfunction would I remember to tap the mag in tight, rack the slide and try to shoot again or just stand there saying...Huh?

funny you mention it.

Just had a match on Friday and was absoloutly cruisin along when the hammer dropped and no bang. Instead of clearing the round and continuing I just stood there in shock! Problem was that my Lee press had not quite seated the primer and so the FP's energy was used to seat the primer instead of set it off. Only ever had one ammo related FTF before so I guess you right about the reliability problem. The damn things never go wrong so when something does happen you sit there scratchin your head.

Current SIG inventory is a 229 Sport in 357 SIG and a 220 Sport.
Both are top notch weapons and very accurate.

Just an old West German Sig 220 with the sharp hammer spur for me. Very accurate and reliable as long as it's kept clean and lubed.

I have owned my first sig for just a short time now. I have H&K's and Glock.(USP 45 & USP .40 S&W G-19 9mm)

The sig I have is a p229 two tone stainless 357 with .40 barrel. I had the grips replaced with lazer grips. When I first got it I wanted to see how far the lazer would go. I had my neighbors new Ford lite up like a christmas tree before my wife caught me.(100 yrds with a 6 inch red circle on the drivers door!) I told her the slide was locked to the rear and empty, besides if Steve saw it, he would of thought it was as cool as I did!

As far as the fell, and the way it groups at 25 yrds, I'm in love.
Does anyone know of anybody looking to buy some H&K's in great condition?

I just wish there were more manufactures of 357 sig rounds to help drive down the cost of ammo. As well as offer more in class of ammo!

Welcome to the club!  SIGs are simply stellar firearms.

cheaperthandirt.com sells S&B ammo for .357SIG for VERY reasonable prices.  I live close to them, so I'm able to go and get the ammo from their showroom.
