Tang safety M77 Trigger Adjustment.
« on: February 06, 2005, 10:02:02 AM »
Well guys, I've been a Remington 700 man my whole life, except for a couple of 600's and 660's thrown in. I'm not too familiar with the trigger adjustment on the earlier tang safety M77's.

I just acquired a used M77R in 25-06, and it's the 770 serial prefix with the tang safety.  The allen head screw that regulates the spring pressure on the trigger doesn't appear to offer much difference when I back pressure off of the spring.

I can adjust a Remington trigger to perfection, but I have zero knowledge of this Ruger.  If possible, I would love to get it down to about 2.5 pounds. The online owners manual from the Ruger website doesn't provide any useable information, other than what NOT TO DO to the trigger.  BTW, yes it has had the modification performed, as the bolt handle is engraved with the "T". Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Amazing, no responses!   Surely someone here has a pre-MkII M77 and has adjusted the trigger themselves.

I appear to be on the wrong board!  :?

Hi,

I'll give you a response.

DON'T DO IT.  DON'T SCREW WITH TRIGGERS.

Buy a Timney and be done with it safely.  There's NO need to mess with a trigger unless you have a really good idea of what you are doing.  Timney's are cheap (about $60) and easy to install.

:D Hey there doorgunner,

Go back a few posts to the subject, "Safety Warning - old m77 w/tang safety."

There you can see my post in reply to that subject, which points to the fact that only those who REALLY,   R E  A L L Y   know what they are doing should work on this trigger.

The adjustments/work can be made, making that trigger into a very nice trigger indeed.  However, my post shows that even a trained "gunsmith" can blow it if his ducks aren't all in a row.

Keep em coming!
