New Turkey Hunter

I would like to try my hand at VA's spring turkey season.  Any recommendations for calls and tactics?

3.  Get in the right spot (very early)
4.  Shoot turkey (in the head)

turkey hunting isn't nearly as hard as some make it out to be.  Most of the calling and/or decoy talk is hype... buy a decoy or two, learn how to be competent with a box or slate call, but most of all, be where the turkeys want to be.

I agree with dukkillr.  Scouting is the most important.  Get out there early enough to get set up before the birds fly down.  Calling is important but even an average caller can get the toms to come in.  If I were you I would get a box call and a slate call with a couple of different strikers.  Both of those are fairly easy to learn and you can make adequate sounds with them.  Get them now so you can start practicing.  

Turkeys are much smarter IMO then deer.  They can spot any movement so you have to be slow and deliberate when you do.  Read through this forum and you will find some great help.
