s&w model 66 $$?
« on: February 07, 2005, 10:49:03 AM »
i have a question about value. i was at one of the local gun shops saturday and noticed a great looking model 66, stainless steel in .357 with a 6' barrel. the asking price was 369.00. i did not have a look down the barrel or any thing yet. but lets say its good. is this price fair.
if its worth doing, finish it!

I was recently in the market until settling on a Taurus Model 66 .357 Mag.

My pricing on the S&W 66 as you saw were at least 400, I would say you found yourself a bargain, barring any surface blemishes or something.  Look it over good, and if you are in the market I would say you are lucky!

Charlie, if you decide not to buy that gun how about providing me the contact info for the shop via PM. I'd like to talk with them about it. Been looking for an older Model 66 6" for somewhile now and haven't seen one in a shop here in nearly 20 years.

s&w m66

thanks guys!
can you tell me when the m66 was produced? this one does not look that old. the dealer that has it is normally very aware of values. i think i would ask to try it before buying or trading.
i carried and competed with a m19 for 9 years as police officer and sort of miss the .357.
i shoot a taurus m44ss6 right now but its heavy for 25 yard offhand & ppc type.
graybeard if i pass on the deal i'll let you know any info i can pass on.

Charlie, I've been looking for a 66 also but the 4" . Price range sounds close to what is around here in Tx. 1st. issued in 1970 then with a series of dashs, discontinued in 1993.

actually I have found a couple of 66's ($325) with the 4" and just need to commit, first one must be the the pinned and recessed.
one was apparantly a model with no dash and the other one appears to be the last model with 66-6 ($395) when you see and swing out the cylinder.
Then the same store has brand new looking 686 7-shot and 5" barrel ($400).

I had the .44 mag Taurus blue with 6.5" and shot it in big bore matches, it shot pretty good and have since traded it for a Ruger Vaquero and now want a .38 to shoot out to 25 yrds.
