Hamilton No.27
« on: February 07, 2005, 01:18:15 PM »
I recently inherited from my mother-in-law a small, almost tiny .22 single shot rifle. On the left side of the receiver are the words- The Hamilton Rifle No. 27 .22 Cal , patient oct. 30th 1900. other patients pending. MFS BY THE HAMILTON RIFLE Co. of Plymouth, Mich. USA
The action opens by lifting the bolt up and the barrel breaks like an H&R single shot. Put a shell into the chamber and close the action and locking it by turning the bolt down than pull the hammer back to fire it.  Anyone have any ideas on where I might get parts? The stock was replaced years ago and I'd like to get it back to stock if possible. The hammer is a little banged up, but it still functions. Gun Parts doesn't list the rifle at all. Not looking to sell as it will go to my son, just want to find out more about the rifle and possible parts. Thanks, Worm.

are you sure the stock was replaced. If memory serves me right the stocks on these look like they were sawn out of a board.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I was told by the M-I-L that her dad replaced it after it had been broken about 30 years ago. The stock does look like it was a shelf board and the forearm looks like it was a part of a broom handle. Any ideas on where I can get some information on the rifle? Thanks, Worm.

The American Rifleman had a series of articles on these rifles a while back.  Maybe you could research there.   They were just about the cheapest .22 rifle ever made, and were actually given away as promotional gifts for such things as magazine sales.

Try a search for  NRA.org  I don't know if the magazine articles are on line.

See if your local Library carries the NRA American Rifleman. Most do and you can get back copies checked out or copy the article there. IF you do not belong to the NRA or the GOA both pro gun groups I ask you to join one to protect our gun rights as a gun owner it makes sense. I know some do not like the NRA ( I am a member) but their is always the GOA while not as powerfull as the NRA still has a strong voice for gun rights in DC. Both could use more members though as the more members the stronger they are to fight for our gun rights against the Anti's
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I have the Hamilton Model 15 rifle.   Lots of history behind these guns.   I have a website address for info on the Hamilton rifles.   I just checked it and it is down at this time.  Don't know if it is down for good or not.   Will post the URL anyway and hope it comes back up.
