I found a 445 super mag reamer today, and ordered some brass,so if this works out like I think it will, I may just sell my 45 70 barrel. ( Just kidding)If it shoots accurate enough, it will give you guys something else to lust over.   Digger

What are the specs on that cartridge. I thought about having that done to my 44 mag. but couldn't find much info on it. But the other possibility would be to ream it out to a 444 marlin, but if that was done could you still shoot 44 mags in the 444 chamber

If you had it reamed to 444 marlin couldn't you shoot all of them in it? the 444, 445 supermag, 44 mag, & 44 spc. I not sure just a thought if this is possible wouldn't this be the most versitle and would handle almost any game.

I didn't read quicks reference, so he may have told you the same thing, but from a rifle the 445 should give something very like 444 ballistics. It can be prety well counted on that the 44 Mag will gain 250-300 fps in a rifle barrel. Should the 445 so the same it will step on a 444, perhaps even bettering it from an 18" barrel. The real beauty though is that it will do this with 10 or more grains less powder. This equals less recoil. Besides, in the end a 300 grain bulelt at 1800-2000 fps is a 300 grain bulelt at 1800-2000 fps. A deer ain't never gonna know better, but your shoulder will. As well, you can shoot 44 Special and 44 Mag from the chamber, unlike the 444 which is only good for, well, 444. All told it looks a very good rechamber for the Handi.

Varminter; I don't know how difficult it will be,but I'm about to find out. The best thing I can see is that you can still fire 44 mag and 44 spl. in it. Digger

Varminter, this one is a true no brainer, you don't even have to disasemble the ejector, just use a small clamp to hold it closed, that is how I did my 357 rechamber. The chamber diameter doesn't change, only the length of the chamber. The reamer will center itself in the exisitng chamber, it doesn't even require a lot of force, in fact force is exactly what you don't want. A local gunsmith should be more than capable of doing this for you, the reamer can be rented at www.reamerrentals.com It is a 10 minute job, the reamer should arrive at the gunsmith, he should call you, you show up with barrel in hand, in 10 minutes or less you walk out with a 445 Super Mag barrel. Do be aware, the 445 is a reloading only proposition. You can buy new brass from any catalog supplier that carries Starline Brass, www.midwayusa.com comes immediately to mind. I can't think of a more user friendly cartridge for a beginning reloader to start on, other than a 44 Mag or 357 Mag or 38 Special

The site lists 2 types of reamers.....FLOATING PILOT & SOLID PILOT. What's the difference?

From what I understand, the floating pilot is a separate piece that fits in the bore and the actual reamer runs inside it....the solid pilot is just on the end of the reamer and it turns inside the bore......I think! Floating pilots can be ordered in different sizes to accomodate slightly different bore dimensions....IIRC, you get 2 with no extra cost, then I think they were $2 for each additional size, or something like that.

is there anyone that already has a reamer that i could possibly borrow or maybe give give you some cahs to rent from you and i'll just take it to my local gunsmith and let him do it. It may sound like a simple job to some of you guys but with my inexperience i don't want to chance screwing my 44 mag barrel up.

JBtazgrabber has a 444 Marlin reamer, but the spec.s of the 444 are not quite the same as a 445 so I rented one from the place that JPH45 refered to.I hope it comes in today, because I got my brass from Midway yesterday. I may holler at you Sat. if it comes in Marv.  Digger
