Hog gun?
« on: February 09, 2005, 09:27:15 PM »
I may have a chance to hunt hogs near Memphis Texas.  I'm wondering if my Marlin lever gun in 38-55 is enough gun for the job.  I've been shooting 255 gr Lazercast bullets at 1600 fps.  If not enough,  what would you recommend?   30-30, 308, 30-06 or what?

GO FOR IT!  The old girl will knock em dead.  Keep your shots inside 100 yds. or so, and enjoy the pork. :-)

I have to agree and say you should do well with your 38-55.  :D

If you do your part the rifle should do fine.

Amen, the 38/55 should be perfect pig medicine, that 255 hardcast should have no problem with penetration, just hit it where it counts.

hoser,
Sounds like you've already got the first part of a good barbeque recipe.
Now all you need is one pig and some slow hickory smoke.
Best,
