Had a Fairbanks Game Board Advisory council meeting last night.
Dept of Fish and Game wants to do another antlerless hunt, just lake last year in unit 20-A. This was a registration hunt and the majority of the hunters registering for permits were from South Central. Their target was 600 Anterless Moose, 601 were taken.
I also asked the biologist (Don Young) why more muzzleloading hunts can't be opened in unit 20-B? There is more areas than Creamer's field that could be considered. And since the Game Board has already approved muzzleloading hunts in 20-B I believe it's his call.
A Trooper was there to talk about the negligent feeding (unintentional baiting) issue. His remarks and reasoning did not set well with some board members, and many members of the public in attendance. I asked what is the difference in feeding hay to livestock and drawing in wildlife, and raising a garden and drawing in wildlife. The Trooper refused to answer my question.
Give me some feed back, how do you feel about the Antlerless hunt, the Muzzleloading hunt, and the negligent baiting issue. We are having another meeting Tuesday night at 7 PM. in the Pioneers Hall at Alaska Land (Pioneer Park).
subsistence Hunting in unit 13 was also an issue. Some people want to increase the limit in the area so we can have a general hunt there.
They also talked about fishing, but since I don't fish I was not paying attention and can't talk about that. At this time I was trying to find out more about the Wood Bison project. I think the reintroduction of Wood Bison to the Yukon Flats would be a huge benefit to the area. Think of the hunting opportunities in 25 to 30 years! And you think the Delta Bison are big, Wood Bison are huge! Rog
