.223 Handi rifle Customizing time!

hey everyone,
As some of you may know i purchased a NEF .223 cal handi rifle a few months ago, it currently has a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9X40 scope on it and thats about it. Ok lets cut to the chase i love the look and feel of the gun but hey i bought it cuz it was nicely priced, different from what everyone else has (round here Im an outcast for owning it) but who cares i dont, and most of all to have money left to get what i thought is a decent scope and maybe so cool accessories to spice it up a bit and show people its not such a bad gun. I recently ran into a problem, i wanted to install my harris bipod that has been on my marlin .22 but when they put the sling mount on they put it to far forward and to me it seems off to one side a lil and its not very solid like it is on the marlin, so i started to look for some forends on the net and found a REALLY cool one i think at Choate Machine & Tool I really like the features of the wider forend ajustable stock etc. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Choates products and if it was worth doing this, I like the skeleton design of it also. And second i was thinking about getting a lens shade for my nikon scope, and wanted some input on those as well and if they are worth it, my uncle says he likes his but i want more opinions.

Welcome to the board, Hazard! Can't help ya much on the stock, it's not too popular here, the new H&R Ultra Varmint comes with that stock and has only a few chompin at the bit to get one. I thought about gettin a new Ultra Varmint just to get the fluted barrel and then sell the stock, but after getting a report from the SHOT show that the fluted barrel is a joke, I'm not interested anymore. :cry: ...here's a related tread with a pic of the choate on a Sportster, though....

, Welcome aboard Hazard, I agree with Quick, most here, with me in agreement, feel that new stock is a butt ugly butt stock. The forearm however seems like it may work out OK for those that want it. Choate makes all the synthetic stocks for the H&R/NEF guns anyway and their quailty is pretty good but occasionally you hear of a crooked synthetic forearm. I am sure H&R or Chaote would replace it if you sent it back to whoever you got it from. If you want something different I would suggest the Survivor buttstock and the new Chaote forearm that is wider and has a provision for attaching a bipod...Good Luck and enjoy, go out there with that Handi proudly and outshoot those others with their bolt guns!!!!....<><....  :grin:
