I wouldn't have believed it...
« on: February 11, 2005, 05:48:51 AM »
Last weekend I was at the indoor shooting range with my contender and the .22 barrel.  Every now and then when pulling the trigger it would go click because the selector switch was in the middle position.

I admonished myself and kept thinking that I needed to be more careful when cocking the hammer.

Last night it began happening again.  This time I had someone else shoot it.  I stood right at their shoulder.  After cocking the hammer we made sure the switch was all the way on rimfire.  As the hammer fell the selector switch moved to the middle position!

It didn't always do it but often enough to be annoying.  Nothing new has been changed recently (new scope, stock, etc.).  I did adjust the allen screw a little to eliminate trigger travel but that shouldn't effect this at all.

What could be making that happen?  Again, I wouldn't have believed it but I saw it happen less than 10" from my nose!  I ended up putting a couple pieces of masking tape on it to "hold it in place" and it never happened again.

The hammer is less than 2 years old from when I had the easy open conversion done.  It also doesn't fell "loose" or able to be switched around without a push...maybe it got possessed

Please tell me that this has happened to someone else and that I am not loosing my slim grip on reality.

No loss of reality, as I had the same thing happen to me. Didn't do it every time, but would switch from RF to safe position.  I replaced the hammer and problem solved.

Been there too, but mine started acting up in the middle of a 40 round silhouette match.  Call TC and ask them to send you a new hammer.

I asked for one, and they sent me two about 6 months ago. I hear things have changed though at T/C. Would like to know if they will still send them out.

I asked for a hammer about a year and a half ago, and was told very nicely that the sides of the hammer needed to be surface ground to fit the receiver.  After I explained that I was a toolmaker and could fit it myself, I was told that they would sell me a hammer for $48.  I ended up sending the frame back to TC.  I got it back in 8 days, at no charge.
