I'm headed for Texas next week for our annual hog hunt. We usually go a little south of San Antonio, in brush country. This year  we are headed a little farther west.  Anybody Know this country?  Is it flat and brushy like south or hills and woods or somethiung else?  Also, what has the weather been like?  It looks to me like its been a pretty wet year.  Man I can't wait!  :-D

I'm not but I kinda wish I was. Love that part of TX and sure could enjoy calling it home.

What ya need to know? I've been there several times. That area is hilly but not mountainous. Also quite rocky in many places. Some of the hills are quite steep but just don't have much altitude to them. Lots of cedar brush and small oaks. Not much in the way of big trees in the areas around there I've been. Pretty dry when I was there. Dunno about this year.

The Hondo area can be extremely thick with brush. Lots of hogs. I do alot of hunting just up the road past Hondo (D'Hanis).

Kerrville is a little more open with some steep hills and ridges. Lots of rocky tops. I do most of my exotic hunting near Kerrville (Harper).

If you need more info. give me a shout.

Don't think you'll find any javelina that far north unless someone has stocked them in a high fenced area. You'll need to move a lot farther south I think. For sure the area won't likely be flat and featureless. Beautiful area in my opinion.

It is beautiful country!!!  Wish I could afford to buy some land in the Kerrville area.  Quite a few large hills covered with cedars and live oaks, great exotic country.  Some of the country West and Southwest of Kerrville, you would swear you were in Colorado, big canyons and steep hills, very beautiful in the spring.  If you ever want to hunt exotics, this area of Texas is where it all started.  I'm staying in Kerrville this weekend and going to the exotic sale in Harper, third weekend of every month.  If you like wildlife and varying terrain, you'll love it.  Have a great weekend!!!

:D  Well, we had a real good hunt.  The first night we hunted just south of Hondo. I got the only shooting with a small +/-90pound sow. After the next mornings hunt, our guide, Clay Pope,  suggested we try another place as this one was lacking in sign. So we loaded up and headed  to Blanco.  We hunted a small exotics ranch where the owner was complaining the pigs were tearing up his feeders.  This country was alot prettier than the brush country I was used to. Also, seeing all the other critters was a thrill (black buck, axis, fallow, sitka and whitetails, and elk).  I had a 5x5 bull elk under my stand, that was pretty cool.  Almost as soon as I got into my stand, I heard one of the other guys shoot.  Not long after that I heard the other guy in our group shoot.  I eventually had 6 little ones at my feeder. I had wanted to see what my .44 would do with the new bruin bullets I'd bought, so I let one have it. He propably only weighed 50 # or so, But he'll taste just fine.  That little boar of mine made it 5 hogs for us three hunters that night with my Dad's 300# boar being the biggest.  Not a bad nights hunt!  I got some pics, but they are too big to upload, kinda blurry anyway. At least we got to fill up our freezers and had fun! :-D
