New Club up and nearly runnin
« on: February 07, 2003, 05:19:51 AM »
Well after five months we are nearly ready SASS papers goin in any day now. The paper work required for a new club is, well lets just say its one thing after another. But luckily we got us a dandy sec/treas, and I got the easy part (president). Got a lease on near 80 acres fer the range, so things will be permenent, only draw back is gotta wait for spring to start on it per the landowner. For now we just set up targets at the local range move em arround to create mock stages. So as Summer arrives if any o you pokes decide to head north with the herds plan on a stop in the area and doin' some shootin. Hey Marshal GB now ya got another reason to come up and more fire power to bring with ya. Charlie Bull

Sorry to hear you aren't gonna make it to the 4th Annual either. I know the guys were looking forward to and hoping you'd make it down to join them again. Things might work out for me but the new computer store that is already WAY over due to open will be opening some time this month and me and Matt are likely gonna be the only ones there for awhile unless it takes off like a rocket.

His girl friend is changing shifts at the Honda plant and will be able to help some M-W and he has a part time tech guy to help when the work and money permit. The son of the guy who owns the store next door has indicated a desire to work for free to learn about computers. So all of that together "might" make it possible for me to drop by but I'm not counting on it. Maybe the job will give me enough money to upgrade a vehicle after awhile so I'll be able to come out your way in the next couple years some time.

Would like to shoot some steel and if we could arrange it maybe even chase some game.

montana,
can you give us a "quick and dirty" idea of what it takes to start up a club?  How much paper work and how hard was it for you to find the land for your range?
thanks

The land was the easy part a member has 80 acres he leased us for the range, a meadow for camping and rv's etc. To start a club ya need a min of 20 to 25 interested and dedicated people (our dues are $25 a year  $40 for a family up to 4 and we charge $5 for members and $10 for non members to shoot parctice). First you need a GOOD sec/treas (he does all the work). NRA affiliation (all officers need be members) then you get a million in ins.(we added coverage for land owner and all members while at range working or shooting) cost was I believe $400. Then you get your SASS affiliation. Targets one member has about a dozen and I have made about 5 or 6 til we get money to buy more. Then there is non-profit status needed to apply for grants for range development. Also incorporation so if some sue happy sucker sues they can only get the assets of the club. Start adding it up and you can see shooting 1 or 2 times a month (its cold up here) 20 to 25 members is BARE minimum. Any more ???? ask away and I'll do my best.    Charlie Bull
