Load suggestions for 10" .44 mag Encore
« on: February 12, 2005, 02:46:53 PM »
I just picked up a 10" .44 barrel for my Encore, and am looking for some load suggestions for it.  What seems to work better, a fast burning powder or a slower one?

What seems to work for you all?

thanks

Check your other post.  :D I posted what I use in my 10 inch contender barrel.

I've used Unique for target loads with a 250 gr cast SWC.  For hunting loads with 200 to 240 gr JHP bullets I've used 2400 and W296.

Generally faster powders are for lighter and or target loads. They offer less recoil, muzzle flash and cost savings. Examples are, 700X, Unique, WW231, SR4756, HP38, AA7 and there's many more.
For max horsepower and heavy loads, AA9, 2400, H110/296.

Over the years I`ve tried about everything. Now I only buy 1 powder for all of my high powered pistol ammo and that is Win-296. It will get you the most velosity for the least chamber presure and it seem to be reall accurate in all of the guns I`ve tried it in. Every thing from .357 mags. to the .500 S&W.

I've found 3 powders I like in .44 and .45 colt especially.  For light to low medium power loads Universal (like Unique) works well giving nice accurate relatively clean burning loads.  In medium to medium high I like Blue Dot.  I can go the next level up from Universal getting more velocity and easier extraction and accuracy is generally good.  At full power loads, it is H110/W296/WC820 hands down.   This is what I usually hunt with combining excellent accuracy and high velocity.
