Handi .22-250 accuracy update
« on: February 12, 2005, 03:09:11 PM »
went to the range today with my .22-250 and did better than expected.  ive got a cheap Bushnell Deer Hunter 3-9x50 on it.

winchester cases once fired, 55 grain sierra spitzers over 34 grains of IMR 3031 with CCI primers.   full length sized because i dont have a neck sizing die yet.  one inch five shot groups, with one five shot group at .840.   i thought that was pretty good, seeing as how it was windy and my brother was shooting his romak right next to me, pelting me with steel cases.   i tried a few rounds that i had factory crimped and i didnt care for the results, but i expected those to suck anyway.

one thing i noticed is that the groups start to open up BIG TIME as the gun gets dirty.   i honestly think that the groups climbed from one inch to three from dirt alone.   a little bit of cleaning, and they dropped again.   of course, i suppose that could be heat too.   i suspect dirt though.  you might be able to pop prarie rats all day long, but it wouldnt hurt to run a rod down the bore after every twenty to thirty rounds.
