thinking of reloading
« on: February 12, 2005, 09:05:57 PM »
I've been tossing around reloading for ducks in heavy shot are the likes. My question is, how is it comparable to off the shelf shells in price and pattern? What reloader to look for? Thanx

I do most of my shot shell reloading for special loads. mostly turkey and slugs.

That depends on how much attention you pay to detail and how much you want to play with loads. as for price you have to include startup cost and supples. after a while this will even out and in time you will save quite a bit on "special loads"  if you are loading trap loads you can find good loads cheaper then one can reload. patters will be different for each shotgun you just have to work to find the load yours like the best.

you can not go wrong with a MEC loader you can get a 3 1/2 kit for most of them.

IF you are not going to do a lot of shooting you may be better off just buying factory shells. Most people I know only shoot about 2 or 3 boxes a season they would  not gain anything by reloading.

Thanx, I'll only be loading a few cases a year for ducks, mainly 3". Will the mec 600 adapt to 3.5", just in case. Thanx again.

I see with the Steelmaster you can load 31/2' shells but I am unsure if you can get a 31/2' kit for the 600 JR. The 600 JR will work just fine for 3" shells.
