Browning A bolt 223 HELP!!!
« on: February 13, 2005, 01:55:44 AM »
I just picked up a micro hunter 223 today. This is my second A bolt I would like to hear opinions on this rifle. The first thing I did was try to adjust the trigger. Browning says thier triggers are adjustable from 3-6# The best I was able to get was 4.5-5# This is just not acceptable to me in this caliber I would be happy with 3#

Pick yourself up a Timney spring kit. They are about $15 at any of the suppliers (Midway, etc.) and they make a world of difference. Installation is easy, and my result is a trigger that breaks at 2.5lbs. with no creep.

kenscot, Yes, the kits come with instructions. I had a friend who is a very good amatuer gunsmith (a retired IBM machinist) install mine, but I would do another on my own, it was that simple. I did not notice a problem with over-travel on my rifle, before or after the spring kit was installed, so I don't know if the kit will correct an over-travel problem.

My Abolt 25/06 will shoot 1 MOA or less 3 shot groups.  The barrel heats up very quickly so 5 shot groups open up.

I love mine.

Ken, I have a Hunter .243. My woodchuck load (70 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips, 47.0gr. IMR 4350) has given me three shot groups of .5". The gun also shoots other loads with the 70 gr. Noslers very well. I am less the MOA with my deer load (95 gr. Partition, 42.0 IMR 4350.)
I bought a stainless Stalker over Christmas. I have just started working with that rifle, with some good results and some poor results. The jury is still out on that one.

P.S. The Stalker is in .30-06.

I forgot that I do have 3006 medallion w/ the BOSS I was able to to get that trigger down to 3.5# and it will shoot 3/4" groups with 165 gr nosler Ball tips with 56.5 gr of H414 winchester cases and CCI 250 primers. It just seems to me that the browning trigger suffer from some over travel something that is a little more easier to adjust on remington guns. I will see what these spring do for it or
