Removing the stock on an Ultra 12.

Is it just a matter of removing the two screws in the recoil pad?

BoneDigger,

The two screws in the recoil pad is the first step. Once inside there will be a steel rod that is held in place with a Phillips head screw, remove that, the steel rod and a little rubber slug about 1/8" thick that is between the rod and the bolt that holds the stock to the receiver. Next you will need a 9/16" socket (thin walled works best) and a long extension (or two short ones) to get to the bolt. Remove the bolt and that's all there is to it.

The steel rod is only for balancing out the weight and for recoil reducing. Some people have removed them. I keep mine in my Ultra 20, but probably would not need it.

No there is a little more to it then that.  You will need a phillips screw driver and a 9/16th in thin wall socket and a couple of extension or one long one and a racket.  Remove the screws holding the recoil pad/butt plate and remove it from the stock.  Attach the socket to the extends and insert it into the hole in the shock.  Attach the extension to the racket.  Turn the racket counterclockwise until the attaching bolt is unscrewed.  And the stock with pull away from the receiver.

Thanks guys.  That helps a lot.  I'll try it this evening and see how it works.  I'm not sure what I'll find inside of there.  The used gun I just purchased had a 1 lb weight added to it and when the gun is moved around you can hear it rattle inside the stock.  I'm hoping there is some way to secure the weight inside the stock to stop it from rattling.

Wrap electrical tape around the weight to tighten it up in the stock.

If it is an ultra slug deluxe you should use some nice black electrical tape. If it has the plain old wood stock duck tape would be more appropriate.
