I recently bought a NEF Handi Rifle in .280. I'm looking for some loads to try out. I worked up some using Rl-19 and 139 GR, Hornady SST's but was not happy at all. Hoping some of you all have some pet loads for this caliber. Thanks!!

IMR or Hodgodon 4350 or maybe 4831 are probably your best bet. Go to the IMR or Hogdgdon sites for data. Dave

I've been loading for one .280 or another since 1978. I've found that with 150 grain and lighter bullets, IMR 4350 has given me the best results. With heavier bullets I like either IMR 4831 or Rl-19. With the 175 grain bullets, I've tried IMR 7828 with good results.

Out of my bolt action 280 I have used Reloader 19 with good results, but have had excellent luck with H-4831 (56-57 grains) with 140 gn bullets. This is a hotter load so work up. If you haven't already, do a search on 280 and you will find quite a bit of info.

I've had great accuracy out of these two loads:

140gr. Remington PSPCL, 53.5gr. IMR 4350, R-P cases, WLR primer

139gr. Hornady SST, 57gr. IMR 4831, R-P cases, WLR primer

Please use caution on these loads. They're proven safe in MY RIFLE(Ruger M77mkII) but may not be in yours. You may see loads with 140gr. bullets and IMR 4350 with heavier charges but this load shoots sub 1" in my gun, I have even shot less than .5". Different cases, primers, lots of powders, (and especially rifles) may cause different pressures and please work up carefully. Good luck.

My Ruger M77 shoots MOA with 140 gr Nosler Accubond or BT over 54 gr of 4831SC, CCI200 primers. My new Encore .280 barrel just happens to shoot the very same load. The only difference is one is seated 3.31, the other is seated 3.33.
