line of sight... a trajectory quiz
« on: February 13, 2005, 03:12:03 PM »
if your scope is 2" above your bore c-t-c on a .223 rem super 14, what would be the proper sight in range for 45grn hp so that the bullet did not rise more than 2" above the line of sight?  (breathe here) i'm also wondering how much if any the 4" total rise above the bore will affect the trajectory. the ammo is that winchester bulk stuff at a claimed velocity of 3600fps out of what is sure to be a 24" barrel. (again a breath) i guess if one knew the actual velocity out of a 14" tube and the b.c. of the bullet it could be figured easily with a ballistics calculator.

i have now used my allotment of words for the day, i eagerly await the deluge of informed replies. :D

truckah based on an assumed mv of 3100 fps and an assumed bc of .202 my ballistics calculator came up with a zero of 207 yds with max height (2") above line of sight occuring at 128 yds and 2 inches below line of sight occuring at the gun and again at 238 yds.

calculated again with only a 1" sight height and all the other numbers the same I got the following:  zero at 195 yds with max height occuring at 112 and min height occuring at 226 yds.

From my Hornady Handbook, although I was recently directed to the Point Blank software (I used an older version of ballistic software called Qball for your calculations because I just started playing with Point Blank today) deep breatth.........anyway Point Blank has a most excellent bullet database listing many more bullets than any of my manuals.  I just grabbed the Hornady book because Point Blank is on my other laptop and I didn't want to fire it up.

Oh, by the way my hammer spur is right under the bell of my scope on several of my barrels.  I picked up a hammer extension at a gun show and have had no worries since.
