I've tried slings--- and as a shooting aid to help steady yourself in field shooting positions, they can help----but to me, for carrying purposes, a sling is not as good as a holster. I like the Uncle Mike's Bandolier cordura nylon ones which go diagonally across the chest---they make a size which will hold a 15 inch Encore with scope---I have two---one black and one in camo. They also have another size which hold a scoped ten inch T/C or big revolver---got two of those also. When in brush or rain, scope is kept clean and when in thick stuff or climbing, the gun is not swinging around like when carried with a sling---also you can rotate the bandolier shoulder strap so the gun is on your back---helps when climbing into a deer stand---that velcro cover will hold tight---the drawback is that opening the velcro is noisy and must be done before time to shoot or you might scare an animal with the noise----also they are washable---mud and blood is really not good for leather ---and they are inexpensive. pg

I like Uncle Mike's Bandolier. I do not like the sling's at all, they get in the way and get caught on tree limbs. JMHO  :D

Although I like the Uncle Mike's Bandoleer holster, recently for still hunting in the desert (lots of hiking) I have just been carrying stainless 15" scoped Encores just stuck crossdraw through a nylon cartridge belt.  It leaves hands free to carry a hiking/shooting stick and does not restrict bending and climbing.

It takes up less room than the holster, easy to draw and quiet.  The scope base retains the pistol from slipping down in the belt and no pressure is being exerted upon the scope.  It's easy to slip you jacket over the action and scope for protection.

Because of the dusty conditions I doubt I would try this method of carry with a polished blue barrel.
