Encore accuracy question ?

I have a 260 barrel for my encore and a 50 cal muz I use with the same receiver. The 50 cal shoots great, very accurate, and the 260 was all over the place. After shooting a couple of different brands of ammo without  an increase in accuracy, I tried an oversized hinge pin. Still no improvement. Shipped receiver and barrel back To TC for repair, got it back 6 weeks later. Here is what they said they did to my rifle : Changed springs in rec. checked rec. for function, Recrowned barrel, test shot at 100 yards used 140 gr. core-lokt sp ammo received 1 1/4 group.That was at the repair center, I have not had a chance to shoot this since I got it back. My question is ? Is this acceptable, should I be happy with this ? Thanks in advance for any advice, info, etc. RCK

I would say try some different loads and see if you can get improved accuracy. You should do better.IMO.  :D

Well, that is plenty good for deer.  But being the imortal tinkerers we are I too would say it might be worth some more ammo testing to see what you get.

I too had grouping problems with a 7MM MAG. It was shooting 3" to 5" groups at 100 yards.I tried all ammo and grain.I sent the frame and barrel back and they said they fire lapped it and got 1 1/4" groups at 100 yards.I got the gun back and it still shoots 3" to 3.5" groups at 100 yards.I have tried all ammo again,put the washers under the stock,cleaned after every shot,cool after every shot,tried lots of different ways,nothing seems to work.So I just sent my barrel back for another one.See what happens when it gets back.Good luck with yours but don't count on getting that 1 1/4" groups that they said you would get.I have seen alot of these guns shooting 1/2" groups.But I haven't had that luck.

I don't like to call anyone a liar, but  that is the same (exact) note I got from the factory on my barrel.  Now that I read your post, it makes me feel that they use the same line to all of us.  To me that makes someone at the factory a bold faced liar.  My .30-06 barrel still doesn't come anywhere close to 1 and 1/4" groups at 100 yards.  As a matter of fact, it shoots worse now then before I sent it back to them.  I am so disgusted in this matter that I will get rid of the Encore and try to forget this lousy episode in the shooting life.    :x

I will go out of my way to let all who ask my opinion on this gun!  I still own and shoot my G2 with four different barrels.  Don't know why they are shooters and the Encore is not.  I scratch my head over that one.

Well I have read everyones trouble posts before and that does seem to be the standard TC answer...Hmmmm :roll: I have a friend that has a 270 barrel that shoots eratic and TC has told him to send it back. I will get on him about that and see if he gets the "standard answer". This has me shying away from buying a rifle barrel. It sound like a 50-50 chance of getting a good one, and it should not be that way.

Check out the articles at www.bellmtcs.com. Mike Bellm has a lot of experience with T/C's. I'm right in the middle of sizing my rounds for a 0.001 headspace clearance that he recommends. Hope it turns out.

Try 120 grain Noslers

I've got the same barrel combination and both shoot very well.  I'm shooting factory Rem. 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips through the .260 and consistently grouping 3/4"- 1" at 100 yds..  Jerry

RCK- I just sited in my 7mm Rem Mag 26" heavy SS with Remington 175 gr PSP and a Thompson Hawken site. After my first shoot I made scope adjustment for elevation, shoot #2 I had to move her left, shoot #3 was right on, shoot #4 was in the same hole as #3. I had to look real close to see it, at first I thought I through it off the paper but couldn't believe I would do that. I'm very happy and can't wait until the weather gets better to do more shooting.
