H powders and IMR powders - interchangeable?
« on: February 14, 2005, 11:56:29 AM »
My local powder source carries H powders instead of the IMR powders I've used in the past. Instinct tells me I should start low and work up loads carefully as with primer or brass changes but I am curious. How do the powders compare in your experience? I will be using H4350 and H4831 for the most part.

DO NOT swap IMR 4831 for H 4831.  H version is slower and most books will reccommend more of it than IMR 4831.  I always cross reference several sources for load data for a given bullet weight and powder and then make doubly sure I am making fair comparasons.  It ain't hard to make a mistake!

clodbuster said it right. I  have been reloading for over 20 years and I have never done it and never will.  :D
