Why load the 7mm hot?? It will perform ok with normal loads in the 95 chilean w/29" barrel for sure. When we load hot we do lose some accuracy in the process plus the extra speed does mean more barrel wear too. If your hunting its about that first shot placement being on the money. "One shot one kill" I have to admit i did load max loads when i first started reloading and had poor accuracy too. But when i cut the charge back a few grains the accuracy came in pronto. If you want more power out of the 7mm then there's the 7mm remington mag. with more recoil of course. The 7mm(7x57) mauser is one of my favorite rounds and its one of the flatest shooting rounds too. Thats why they copied the 30-06 from it. BigBill
As far as new guns in the old calibers Mossberg just came out with a bolt action rifle again. I have an older one from the 70's and its been awesome and still shooting the same nickle sized groups for 30+ years now. Mossberg's new bolt action rifle is model 100 "ATR" ( all terrain rifle) and it comes in 270win. and 30-06 right now and sells for around $244 w/scopemounts. Its made in the USA by the same people who make the maverick shotguns in Texas. I just emailed them about offering one in 7.62x39 for a youth gun. I also suggested two more in 6,5 swede and 7mm mauser too with 24" or 26" barrels. We can try right?
