Health update on Graybeard
« on: February 15, 2005, 11:49:15 AM »
Since Dennis posted here on me when I was getting the heart cath I'll give you the lastest update as of today.

I finally got the results of my Pulmonary Function Test this afternoon. I have moderate Hypoxemia I'm told. I have an appointment on March 4 with the pulmonary specialist to discuss this and what it means and what might can be done to fix me.

I've never heard of Hypoxemia before but a search on Google showed the following:

Quote
Hypoxemia

Hypoxemia, or reduced oxygen in the blood, can be caused by:

1. Low partial pressure of atmospheric oxygen (e.g., high altitudes)

2. Inadequate pulmonary ventilation (e.g., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)

3. Carbon monoxide poisoning

4. Reduced hemoglobin content in erythrocytes

5. Decreased hematocrit

Bill;

Glad you posted, Wish for you the very best in the comming weeks. Was going to call tonite or tommorw to see how you were doing and what you found out. Had to cut back on the telephone calls due to the high bills last month. Between the PD planning and the Freedom Arms purchase, the phone bills went a little high.
Prayers are with you.

You had better get that thing fixed, because that big over 500 pounder is still alive and kick'en. The only guy that has seen him say's he'll go 750,and Lik2hunt,Mac11700,and me have'nt got him yet. So if he's still alive in June you'll probably get your chance at him.   So get yourself well enough that you can run very fast, just in case he spots you first. :-D  :-D   Digger

I'm sure hoping to be but then OK is a relative term. I don't expect to have to do a lot of walking on the PD shooting. I'm hoping we'll be able to drive pretty much right to where we set up. The terrain out there is pretty flat so no hills of consequence I suspect.

If it involved walking even 100 yards with all shooting gear right now there would be no chance of me doing it.

But I see the PD shoot as being pretty easy on me really. Now the other types of hunting I'm hoping to still do are not so easy right now.

You Just keep a positive attitude and remember there's a lot of us pullin' for you.

I also have been struggling with chest/breathing problems.  Went thru the Angiogram in Jan. 2002.  The Cardiologist seemed disappointed that there were no blockages, "clean as a whistle" he said as he peeled off his gloves.  "what about my chest pains" I ask.  "Try a chiropracter" he tosses over his shoulder on his way out the door.  Lucky for both of us I couldn't get up.

Since then I've been trying to get my doctor to do some testing but all they want to do is check out the other end, so I had to fire the last one and hopefully get somewhere with this new guy.

In the meanwhile I've been getting some relief using an herb called Schizandra.

While my report wasn't as clean as yours with the cardiologist he says that's not the source of my chest pains or breathing difficulty. I'd have a doctor schedule you for a pulmonary function test. That's what I've just had that found the Hypoxemia. Now we just have to figure out what's causing it. I hope somewhere in the process we find out why the chest pains also. I kinda suspect whatever is causing the breathing problem is also causing my chest pains. My GP isn't gonna give up until we have this all worked out. He is my doctor and these specialists are called in when needed to check out a specific situation but he's the one I go back to for the final answer to it all.

Hey Bill,
I think you can have chest pains if you can't get enough air.  I remember back when I was a young buck, 35 or so, running in the snow in Colorado after an elk that I shot and hit too high.  After about a mile or so at 8000 plus feet altitude my chest felt like I was having a heart attack.  Felt like someone hit me in the chest with a dull axe.  Never did catch up with him but someone else did, so I didn't feel too bad.  Hang in there, our prayers are with you.

One heart and lung patient to another, Don't let it get you down.  Make the neccessary modifications to your behavior and life style and go on.  Life is too short to stop along the way, and getting started again is near impossible.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

GB'

Several weeks ago I saw a cardiologist because of pains in my left arm and chest.    But my father-in-law talked me into taking co-enzyme q10 as a daily regimen.     I have not had the tests done yet, but I've definitely been more energetic, much less occurence of pain in the left arm and chest, and I no longer have that periodic 'thump' and a skipped heartbeat right after it.

Co-Q10 gives the heart the energy it needs to do its constant work.    No, I don't sell it; I buy it at Wal Mart in their generic.    It's just been so much help that I can't get over it.    A so-called 'Judeau-Christian website had a very good article on it.

Take care and march on,

SS'
