Remington 597 goes swimming
« on: February 15, 2005, 03:56:05 PM »
Well...I guess Fish and I have something in common. We both like to take our rifles swimming :-D

Today while checking my trap...I kinda fell and let my rifle roll over the hill into a little spring(I was right behind it but didn't make it to the spring).

Ok...I'll tell ya how it happens. I was walking over the rockey hill where  one of my traps is. At the bottom of this rockey hill is a fair sized spring. Well...The rocks were kinda slick(one was really sharp) and I fell( and rolled). In the minst of the fall my rifle(some how) ended up rolling into the spring. Good thing the water was only about a foot deep :-D

I think that is the worst part. But It almost ties with the 14 stiches in my arm :x  The stiches are about midways down my forearm on the under side. I was not aware, but there was a very sharp rock that my arm kinda landed on.

HERE COMES THE BEST PART

I took the rifle apart and dries and reoiled everything. The scope was shot. But there is no worry there...My loving girl friend overheard me tell one of my buddies about a tasco 3-9x40 scope I wanted to put on my .22(befor it went swimming). So she got together with him and bought me the scope for valintines day :cb1:

Well thats the end of that "story"
DEER SEASON IS OVER, BUT THERE IS STILL RABBIT, SQUIRREL AND SPRING GOBBLER.  :biggun:

Good God, I shoulda known that story was gonna be contagious  :-D .

Well, water is only water. If ya dried out the gun right and now ya got a replacement scope, you're good to go. Luckifully when my gun went for a swim, I was at deer camp and one thing most deer camps have in common is of course, a wood stove. That dries out things real nice. Including rifles   .

I have only one question. Was your gun doing the backstroke or the breaststroke when it went in?  :)  :-D . Mine didn't have time to react, and just sunk   .

And at least ya got a battlescar to go with it   :D

Yep...I think the battle scar is going to be really nice lookin   :-D

By the way...I failed to mention(don't know why ) I also twisted my ankel in all of this. But the doc. said it was just a really miner sprain and should be o.k. soo, as long as I keep my wieght off it :D
