What to do with a leftover 358 barrel?
« on: February 16, 2005, 03:23:46 PM »
I've got a 21" 35 rem barrel rechambered to 358JDJ magnaported. I want to cut the barrel down to 13 inches. What should I do with the 8 inch stub? I've thought about having it chambered to 357 Bain & Davis, have a lug, dovetails and sites put on it.

Would this be worth the work (and cost) or should I use it for a tent stake?

Thanks

That cut off would make a great 38 special barrel but
I would make the 358 jdj a 14 inch barrel and the 38 special 7 inch or even better a 6 inch barrel. this would be something not a lot of people will have.

Now if you want something really different you can make a 9mm 6 inch barrel. I am not sure how well the .355 bullets will shoot in a .358 barrel. but if you have a 9mm mold it should work quite well and cheap to shoot

I can see the engraving "9mm luger cast bullets only made for Pinkerton"

cknight

Thanks, that was the info I needed. I'll contact Mike and check into it to see if the cost would be worth it.

The barrel is a full bull, I thought it would be a waste to do nothing with the leftover, it has a 4 port magnaport on it. I have an 8" 44 mag barrel with integral break machined in and really like the length, have had a 357 Max 10" and I like the round but am pretty well set on a 357 B&D.

9mm is a thought but as cheap as the ammo is for it, casting and reloading for it just doesn't interest me, and in the end would be a plinking barrel only. 38 and 357 mag would be plinkers also, Had considered 356 GNR but the B&D dies are much cheaper and I've got pleanty of 44 brass

Thanks again.
