ordering the .30-30

They don't say anything about it in the Wal Mart special order information, but if I order the SB2-231 will it come with a scope mount or will I have to order that extra from H&R?

Well, plan on ordering a scope base. When I ordered my 30-30 barrel it did not come with a scope base. I decided to order the base through H&R. :D

30-30 comes with open sights but no problem to take them off and put on a scope rail. :-)

I think if you order thru the barrel accessory program (barrel only) you can request the rail and not the open sights and there is no extra charge for the rail. You just get the barrel with scope rail instead of the open sights.

Another option (that I like) is to get the barrel with the iron sights and just add a scope rail if you want, the barrel comes drilled and tapped for the rail anyway. The rail is much cheaper that the iron sights and you can leave them on with the rail attached and they are there in case you want to remove the scope and rail and shoot open sights. I don't see the reasoning of limiting yourself to one type of sighting arragement when you don't have to. Besides, having iron sights AND a scope rail adds some value (resale) to the barrel....<><.... :grin:

SB2-231 Iron Sights?

Is the SB2-231 equipped with the newer fully adjustable rear sight, or the primitive sight common on older models?

Also, I will freely admit, my aging eyes require rear rifle sights to be located where they are on the Handi. My days of impressing DIs with an M16 equipped with rear peeps are long gone.  :(

Greysky Just give a few more years and your eyes will go for scopes,
 I know I have alreadt got there! :)  I have taken sights off my H^R -
