I am glad someone brought this back up! As there is alot of good information on this old mule. I too own a 336 in 35 Rem. and it is not only the most reliable gun I own it is also the most accurate. Someone will ask me what I am hunting elk with I tell them my 35 Rem. and they look at me like I bumped my head. If I had to put my life on the line, with a rifle in hand, you can bet it would be this one. The only addition I will be adding this year is a Synthetic stock as It will be lighter and I won't take the chance of scratching the original.

Will pick up my Marlin 336 in 35 Rem next week.  Serial number places it as a 1971 manufactured rifle.  Although I'm getting pretty good with my various bolt-actions, there is just something comfortable about a lever-action in the woods!  My Winchester 94 in 30-30 got hunting duty last year and took a nice doe.  The Marlin will probably have to wait until next year, but it sure will be fun practicing for 12 months.

I currently own a Marlin .35 remington, a savage .270, a Remington .243, a Browning .308, a Mosin Nagant 762 x 54R, and have owned in the past many other calibers for large game. My all time favorite is my trusted .35,  this gun has brought home many many deer and hogs. I do have a scope on it, and the longest shot i have made with it was a 300 yarder with a 180 grain soft point. Dropped the deer on the spot. The best shot i made with it was on a 4 point at 100 yards in a pine sapling thicket. It was a broad side shot, the deer ran about 20 yards and fell over. When i went to inspect the deer i found another 3 point about 30 yards further away from the first deer. The bullet went through the first deer side to side behind the shoulder obliterating his lungs, and went on to pass through the second deer from a point 2 inches to the right of his sphincter to the center of his chest and out, end to end.

Surprisingly my second choice would be the Mosin Nagant

Of course, after purchasing the Marlin 336, I went by another gun shop and found an older 336A with a 24" barrel and 1/2 mag tube.  Amazingly, they were priced the same.  This other one shows a lot more wear and loss of finish.  He also had some 35 Remington ammo he gave me for a great price.  May have to go fire the 336 before the rifle season starts.

I wouldn't go anywhere without my trusty Marlin 336C in 35 Remington.  Loves both Remington 200 grain factory ammo and Hornady Lever Evolution.  Every deer shot in the last six years has died on the spot.  Can't say that about my 280 Remington bolt gun or any other cartridge for that matter.

35 Remington is the king of the woods for harvesting all types of critters including moose, elk and black bear.

heard rumors of a new .35 guide gun from marlin in stainless

I contacted Marlin thru snail mail, a couple of years back, and told them if they ever made a stainless 336 in .35 Remington, they would force me to buy yet another deer rifle?

I have had my 35 Rem 336 for 26 years, It is a gun that I would buy over again in a minute! That gun helped put my first bear in the freezer and many deer since. It is a joy to shoot. and if you ever wanted to put a scope on with see through mounts you could later. I think I would like a glow sight maybe up front but thats just age talking..... I hope you buy it, it is a bunch of fun. And quite accurate, when scoped I can group great, but open sights I am not 3" at 100...... ok for hunting as long as it isn't prairie dogs :)  Have fun. Brent
