.357 Flat Top
« on: February 17, 2005, 12:30:17 PM »
Saw a well loved "translated much used" flattop at the local shop today.

My uncle has one of these.  Love the way they handle, the three position action etc.  Were these earlier Rugers made better than the NM's today?  I'm not on the will for Uncle Jack's Ruger but I sure like the way this one handles - 4 - 5/8 bbl.  If you have one, how does yours shoot?

Jeez for $250.00 I'm thinking about picking it up even on the chance that I'd send it to CCG to have him make it a .41, case harden, and a few other extras.

If it's an actual flat top that's a steal. Hopefully it will be there when you go back and if you decide to pass on it I'll be glad to take it off his hands. They generally shoot great.

It is an actual Flat Top.  The price is appealing because it's quite used.  Everything is sound mechanically.  Pulled the based pin, check the bbl, cylinder condition, end shake etc.  All is well.

Mostly it's just missing bluing, some knicks and bumps.  It was obviously cared for but often used.  It's so smooth that an action job wouldn't even be required.

That would be a nice catch and it sounds like a conversion job waiting to happen. Who would you send it to for the work?

Probably Dave Clements.  I'm thinking either a .41 mag or the Jeff Quinn 44 special conversion package.
