Smoothbore postal match ?
« on: February 17, 2005, 03:24:08 PM »
I have been thinking about this for a while. 3 shot group. 50 yards. bead sight. off hand. I think we might need something bigger than a 3"x5" target though. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Sounds good to me. How exactly does a postal match work?

shoot your best group. mail it to a scorer. best group wins. At least I think that's how it works. I've never done it before but read about it a lot.

I'm in!  How many guns can I enter?  Do you have to take the first group you shoot or can you shoot several?

I would think that you could shoot as many targets as you wanted to as long as your best one was mailed in by a certain date. I guess different gauges would have to be scored separately since they make different size holes. Sounds like all we need is a target, a date and a scorer. Maybe the winner should get a tube of Icy Hot.

Slugger Sights

My TDC smoothbore has Williams universal slugger sights. Could we have a separate division for clip on sights or take a penalty in distance say 75 yds or off the group????? Real pain to take them off.

I think we wil have a traditional division for just a smoothbore with a bead sight and an open division for smoothbore with any other sighting system. That way the guy with the $89.00 gun from walmart doesnt have to compete against MSP Ret with his red dot or JRS126 with those nice williams sights. I will compose the formal rules and dates today or tomorow. Thanks for the intrest so far. I guess I have to come up with some kind of prize as well.

Markus, are you going to have a handicap division. My TDC cuts my trigger finger when I shoot it. Definitely affects my shooting ability. Will probably have to do the match injured.

All I ask is that we have a date late enough in the year to turn targets in so it gets somewhere above 30 degrees around here.  Right now it's 10 and the snow is coming in sideways, not conductive to good shooting :-D

hey marki don't see why you couldn't lump it in to the other postal match. that way people could send all their targets in at the same time and you would have enough time to have good weather for shooting.

The thing that made me think about having a match for smooth bores is that in the postal match on the the CF board it just says slug guns and there is a big difference between a scoped ultra that could very easily be a $400.00+ gun with optics. My idea was to make a competition for the $89.00 walmart gun. It also looks like there will be 4 divisions and Wiscott looks like he's got enough to worry about already with the match on the CF board.

My TDC isn't a $89.00 Walmart gun...but I think I can get some slugs that will work in it to try out...I don't have anysite for it...so I'll have to use the bead...is that ok?
