Here is a picture of the big hog that I killed. It weighed 770 pounds instead of 650 pounde as I stated earlier. It was a cross between a Ferrell Hog and Russian Boar I think. I killed him with a .444 Marlin rifle Homemade 265 grain round nose hollow point bullet. :-D

hello looseprimer pocket, I killed the big hog on my property. Sorry I don`t give out location`s :lol: I got`s a honey hole and that`s the way I likes it. But what happened is I was sitting on a creek bank at 07:30 in the morning. My son in law Tommy was about a 1/4 mile from me walking around one of my old ponds. Well he about steped on em :eek: and they come a running my way. and the rest is history. I do likes my Marlin 444, cause it shore stopped the stamped in it`s tracks.
Funning thing the one pictures was the one in the front so I pop him first. The other`s ran off and I noticed some bigger :eek: in the crowd if you can believe that.

Hello Ironwood,He was a real bitch to load up, what we wound up doing was going back to the house and getting my Kiwasaki mule (2510), and trailer, then pulling the big fellar up like you see in the picture, backing the trailer up underneath him and then lowering him down on the trailer. ONce we got him back up to the house, we had to find a strong enough tree limb to hang him on so we could skin him out. We broke two tree limbs, before we found one strong enough to hold his weight.
I make jacketed bullets. That bullet that killed him was 1/2 copper tubing, wall thickness of .035. I made it 265 grain`s, with a big hollow point, and then nose formed it to about 1 ogive. I was using 2200 powder. I would have to look at my reloading paper`s but I think I was using 38.5 grains of powder. 40 grain`s being max for that bullet. When I hit him with it, he dropped like a 700 lb`s sack of potatoes. He thrashed around for about 15 seconds and then gave up the ghost.
The hollow point was deep, so when I hit him, it did not go all the way through but tear and lungs and then stayed inside of him. Rather words it expended all of its energy inside the hog. Round nose might have went all the way through, I don`t know.

did you weigh him? I haven't seen any scales around here that go that heavy. Do you have a scale at your hosue that goes over 700#'s. I have no way to weigh a hog that large around my parts here.

don`t get discourged now, there some big ones out there. I just pure D got lucky. There was some I`ve seen that would go several hundred pounds. and the range is 90 lbs all the way up to 500 and 600 lbs. this one however was an exception to the rule. I plant lots of corn every year for my use and to sell, and these super big ones are eating into my profits.

Dang Markc, you didn`t vote for Clinton did ya?LOL your question kind of reminds me of his trying to explain to the public his indiscretion with old Monica L,
But to answer you question, we used the scales at the slaughter house, which they use for weighing cattle. The Butcher verified my hog. He is licensed, No, that is not field dress weight but full body weight. And I did get a letter from some hunting club wanting all the information, cause they said that I might have killed a record in any state, but they would have to verify the weight and measurements. Will sorry but we already butched and ground him up. I don`t care that people would doubt me. I got the picture. And records, awards don`t mean much, I kill to eat. Now don`t get me wrong, it would be nice to be on T.V. and the big hunting show`s showing off my prize, but I`m just a old country boy and all the fame I need is having a good name and reputation. Just remember what the good book say`s (Good things happen to those that wait).
But there are some big hogs running these woods and part of the reason is cause that get in my corn year round. I grow about 100 acres of corn, milo and soybean. Now that Red Milo and corn they go crazy over. You can hear em but not see em cause of all the corn stalks etc.
But I could go on forever, I`m not a hog expert and I just lucked out.
There are plenty in the 200 and 300 lb class but the really big ones are the size I got and like I said in another report, there are some bigger ones.
I got alot of leaky oil wells on my place and they like to roll in the oil, to get the lice and ticks off them. When they leave to oil , they go staight to the woods and rub on the trees, now there are some rub lines on the trees that will hit me about my belly button, and I`m 6ft. So that a pretty good size hog.

Bowhunting in Quebec years ago, we used 2 scales (one on each leg) for the bigguns. It wasn't EXACTLY on, but it gave us a darn good guess.

compare me to komrade klinton? Actually the reason I asked is because feral hogs that size in the wild are rare. Most do not get to that size if they are eating in the woods. Now I guess hogs that feed in corn fields and such can grow larger than hogs that don't have access to that good food. That and the picture just didn't look like a 770lb pig to me. Not doubting you, just curious. Alot of folks estimate (guess) the weight on the game they shoot and often over estimate. But yours was truly 770lbs, my hat is off to ya sir. Good going!!

I'm with Mark on this one. It doesn't "look" like a 770 pound hog. Nope my dang eyes ain't calibrated and that's probably the reason.

I've seen a photo of a hog taken in Texas that was supposed to go 1050 pounds I think. It was in a photos much like yours and did look MUCH larger in comparison to the hunter.

The single largest "looking" hog in comparison to hunter was in a photo similar to yours. It was from one of the preserves in MO. High Adventure Ranch I think it was but might be wrong. That hog they said weighted 550 pounds. I swear it looked bigger than the one that was supposed to have weighted 1050 pounds.

Looks can be deceiving. I've seen far too many photos of animals from deer to hogs to bears and others that list weights of the animals that are just totally out of reality with the photo of the animal in question. Bears that folks claim weight 400 pounds when the size in comparison the normal size hunter is much smaller than the hunter.

Few animals taken are actually placed on calibrated scales and accurately weighted and reported. Most are just guessed at.

I'm not questioning your word. Just saying that from the hogs I've seen, shot and from similar photos of others it don't look that big. BIG yes but just not that big. I'd have likely guessed in the 400 pound range.

That`s ok Mark, no offense was taken. The picture of the hog was not that good, but I`ve never taken good pictures. It`s hard for me to get a good pictue of a subject, so you can get the feel for the picture. LIke for instance, shooting a picture down a steep trail that you just climbed. For some reason, it just never comes across on the picture how steep that trail really was going up the side of the hill. I guess you would call it depth perception.

Hi G B, Well like I was telling mark it`s hard for me to get a picture right with camera. Now standing right beside it, it is huge, but looking at the picture, I agree with everyone else, that although it looks huge, it looks like a 500 lb hog. The scales that weighed it, probably has not been calibrated in 30 years if it ever was, but that the scales the butcher uses, so I can`t say for certain.
When I get the skull back, I`ll send a photo of it to you`all with me standing beside it and you can get some comparison. Tommy, my son in law, that was standing beside the hog, weigh`s 190 lb`s , so by comparing the head of the hog to him, you can get some idea. Also we gutted him before we hung him for the picture, so a gut full of guts would appear larger, however, someone that can take good pictures could do better.
