My name is Tim Wilcox, I am 38 years old & live in Western NY State. I started trapping at age 9 & then stopped at age 17. I started again 2 years ago when my Son came to me & asked me to teach him.

Not only did I teach him, but taught myself how to catch K-9's. So this has been a learning experience for us both. I now have my daughters involved into this trapping as well. We trap alot of different animals from K-9's to Beaver, we'd like to expand more traps next season as well.

Q. What Do I enjoy Trapping the most?
A. I enjoy trapping beaver and rats the most, but spend most of my time trapping coon because that is where the numbers are in my neck of the woods. I even eat the beaver when I can.

Q. How long have I trapped?
A. I have trapped since I was around 8 or 9. I started out with a few traps I got from the old man in an auction junk box. I only trapped woodchucks at first because that was all I knew there was to trap at the time. The neighbors all burned wood for heat and the woodchucks would topple their woodpiles. Sadly, this was during the period where the coon down at the river just a few dozen yards away were worth much more than my dad was making at his job. I didn't know, and nobody told me.

Q. Where do I live?
A. I live in Faribault MN which is just south of the Twin Cities by about 30 minutes on the freeway.

Q. How old am I?
A. I will be 35 in a few weeks.

I have cut my posting down a lot lately on all of the forums compared to before. I just don't feel up to a whole lot of posting lately.
If this part of Greybeard's site is closed down, I will miss it, but I will be able to survive. I hope that does not happen.

Name - Keith Trudell
Occupation - Student @ UW-Stevens Point - Senior, Majoring in Land Use Planning
Age - 22 years old
Hometown - Oconto Falls, Wisconsin

I started trapping with my little brother Luke, who is 18, in fall of 2003. We don't have anybody in our family that traps or has trapped, so we are trying to pick things up on our own as we go along. I've always been outdoors hunting and fishing with my family, but trapping is new to us. After we caught our first 2 muskrats and 2 mink in one check last winter my brother and I were both hooked.

My favorite thing to trap by far is beaver, probably because we are best at it. We hooked up with 4 beaver last spring all in snares, and then we saw Tom give his demo on 330's this past summer in Mountain, WI, and gave it a try last fall. We caught a beaver the second night we had a castor mound/330 set out, so I'm slowly converting to a 330 man, although I must admit the price of traps is a little steep for my college income. We also took our first under ice beaver in January in a bank den entrace run. Once we start finding the entrances coming out of huts we'll be off and running. We trap rivers and streams back home in Oconto Falls, and we also trap lakes and ponds up north around our cabin, so its nice being able to learn how to trap beaver in 2 different environments.

Our 2 season "lifetime" totals are something like this:

3 mink
8 muskrats
6 beaver
22 raccoons
4 possums
2 skunks

Hopefully the beaver number doubles after this spring!!

My name is buzzy, I've been lurking on this forum & several others for some time.  I like the solitude of being in the woods & waterways of Wis. studying animal sign trying to figure out why & where the animals do what they do.  I've been trapping for over 30 yrs., mostly running mink lines  but enjoy trapping ever thing else to.  Hope to do a lot more after retirement.

Howdy!  I am new to this site.  Personally I like trapping the fox the best.  I have been trapping 20 years and make my own line of lures and baits.  I live in De Soto, MO and  I am 50 years old.  I hope enough people take interest in this site to keep it alive.  I shoe horses and it gets slow in the winter, so I get a lot of time to trap.  We had a tough time in Missouri this year.  One day snow and freezing temperatures, two days later 50 degrees and floods.  My numbers were way down this year.  How did everybody else do?

Thank you for the warm welcome Mr. Tom.  I am on 5 other boards and you are the first moderator to welcome me and I deeply appreciate that.  I trap clear cuts in the Mark Twain National Forest.  Gray fox love these areas and are beginning to thrive along with their cousin the coyote.  I hate clear cutting, but beleive it or not it has actually helped the cottontails.  There is a little cat sign but not enough to do any serious cat trapping yet.  I hear they are lousy mothers and would like a little more sign.  I don't take over two a year.  Coon, be careful where you step, you might just srep on one, although parts of the state were hit with coon distemper this year.  I catch a few reds around my hayfields and the only way I would catch a beaver, is if you caught it and put it in the trap for me.  I am lousy when it comes to trapping beaver, although there are alot of beaver in the creek area I trap.  I have been trapping the same part of the forest for 4 years now and have yet to see another trapper or any sign of another trapper.  Thanks for the welcome and I hope this sight makes it, its a good un.

My name's Mike, age 53, out of Michigan and I began trapping in the late 50's through the early 70's until my partner/grandfather died. I lost interest in trapping until a few years ago when I took it up again. I'm teaching myself coyote trapping and am enjoying every minute of it! Water trapping holds no interest for me.

Coy,no town on earth has been the same, once Newt has been there.
I consider Newt a friend, and always enjoy his company.Except the time he threw the rest of the pizza on the seat of my truck,as I was loading to leave the convention.I didn't see it,and ended up with green peppers everywhere.

I feel so ashamed...  :?  for not visiting more often, frankly, With all the other sites , I just forget this one and Newt's, maybe turning 52 has somthin to do with it, I even forgot my birthday the other day, but so did the wife and kids, lol
Anyway, trapped as a kid, became a commercial fisherman, and couldn't afford to trap anymore, except for favors on nuisance critters.
I got back into it about 3 years ago, wanting to get rid of some coyotes at my hunting place .
Not many places around here TO trap anymore, but still get a few coon and my favorites, muskrats.
Thanks for asking!

Andrew, age 40.  This was my first season.   Any excuse to get outdoors with a purpose.  Enjoy the challenge and of course once I had a little success, the hook was set. Probably enjoy trapping reds the most (no grays around here), but am excited about catching anything at this point.  Cats are the holy grail I'll shoot for next year.

I like to think of myself as a coyote trapper. But it grows fur and I'm in the area I'll set for it. I live in East Central Kansas. I,ve been trapping since about the 7th grade when I learned how to make rabbit snares from copper wire. I am now 49.
