Just bought a SBH SS 5 1/2 44 mag from a co-worker who needed some cash. I paid him $250 and the gun is flawless!!!. Cant wait to get out and shoot. What is the best load for carry in the field?

I believe I would go with a load of 2400 behind a 250gr. Keith cast bullet. About 20gr. would be good.
If you wanted a lighter load go with 9 to 10gr. of Unique behind the same bullet.
Both a very accurate.

I believe that Keith bullet is hard to beat. I've just bought a FA Mod. 97 in 44Spl. The smaller frame, 5 shot. And I think that I've settled on my ideal load. Using Hodgdon's HS-6 and the same Keith bullet. It put five in 2 inches today at fifty yards. And that's with iron sights. I doubt I'll be able to do that again. But man was I tickled.
Almost forgot, mine is a 5-1/2 inch barrel also.
My next handgun will be a FA Mod. 83 in 44 magnum, and I plan on using the load I gave you on the previous post. 2400 and the Keith bullet.
Good shooting and Good luck!

couple of my favorite mid range loads for the .44 mag are a 250 cast with 10 grains of power pistol or unique and 20 grains of h4227 there both fairly mild recoiling loads that have proven to be accurate in most of the guns ive tried them in.
