I need info on Enfield rifles. I'm planning a project . What should I pay for one at the gun show? Anything I should lookout for?

Thanks, Greg

Read up on case hardening, cracked recievers, high/low serial #'s. Not meant to discourage you, it's a great project gun, but starting with as good a reciever as possible will ensure the project is fun and worthy of completion. Frank DeHaas book on turnbolt rifles is a good source of information. NRA Gunsmithing Guide is old, but pretty easily found. Have fun, stay safe.

You can do a search for;  "british enfield rifle"  and a whole bunch of articles come up enjoy the reading!!    Also I think Aim Surplus has some too.  I've seen the prices vary between $75 sporters to $200+ for orginal ones.  The 303 british enfield is the fastest/smoothest bolt action i have ever touched.                                                     BigBill

For any books on them go to; http://www.e-gunparts.com/cproducts.asp?idDept=285

I've been looking at a converted enfield in 45/70 but it wasn't the one we talked about before it was another makers gun.  It was affordable too. Holding one makes me feel like i'm on a safari i'm just missing the hat.(kidding)

Depending on the details of the project, you might consider the #4. They have better, aperture sights, heavier barrels and slightly stronger actions.
