I shot my first Contender today. A friend of a friend was getting out of the game and sold his whole kit & caboodle as a package deal. Naturally I couldnt wait to see if I could play with the BIG toy, the 14 45-70, so today, my first chance, I grabbed my gear box, a handful of Remington 300 Gr JHPs and off I went. In all honesty I was a little leery of that first round. I would have worn a bike helmet if I had one. I took a deep breath and lit that bad boy off. YEE-HAW this is fun!! :-D I did take a step back during that first recoil, but managed get all rounds downrange and to escape injury or embarrassment. My real question here is have any of you chronographed any factory ammo out of a 45-70 barrel? I would love to know how fast those rounds were going.
