.243 takes another coyote in Texas
« on: February 20, 2005, 03:34:14 AM »
While on our annual South Texas deer hunt, my 13yr old son was fortunate enough to take this male coyote. This one was part of a group that had had their way with a deer we could not locate the night before...so he waws simply returning the favor.....a 110 yard shot , well placed, and this boy never took another step.  Thanks NEF,,,,,[/img]

Kudos to your son on good shooting and wild canine control. :D

Out of curiosity, what was he using for ammo, did the bullet exit, and how much did the bullet tear up the fur?

He was using plain old reliable Remington Cor-lokt 80 grain over the counter green box ammo.  10.85 at Wally World..yes it did exit...and the exit hole was about the size of a #2 pecil eraser.....getting a shoulder mount for him......did not hurt the fur at all....

We love Texas as well.....have a friend who has about 20,000 acres down there....we head that way the day after Christmas every year...(bout a 16.5 hour drive from here)....and we hunt quail, turkey, deer, ferrel hogs, and javelina.....oh and by the way...the largemouth bass provide some of the best fun on the trip....by noon it's around 70......cools back down to about 45 when you drop out of your tripod about dark......only about 35-40 miles from Mexican border...mesquite, prickly pear cactus , and deer are the main scenery.....not a bad winter vacation ....would live down there if I thought I could make a living.....
