« on: February 20, 2005, 04:37:55 PM »
O.K.: I think i may go with the .357 Max for Pig hunting.
My ? is Can i shoot .38 & .357 Mag out of the same barrel for light load practice.  Also 10" or 12" which one.
And most of all is the .357 Max Accurate, what Moa can I reallisticly expect. I know I will probably have to get a .357 Mag and have it rechamberd.
Help Me out guy's.

I have a 10" 357 Max and when it wore a 2-7X scope groups ran around 1 1/2 to 2" at 100 meters, I'm sure a better shooter could do better.  Now I have only a 2X scope on it for hunting.
TC does not recommend shooting large quantities of 38 Spcl or 357 Mag out of Max chambers. They say a ring will develop and then the Max brass may fail at that ring.
I think a 12" length would be ideal.  Have you checked the auctions for a used barrel?

Yes you can shoot 38 sps, magnums and the 'max' out of a max barrel. But the shorter cases require a pretty long jump to rifling. This is not considered ideal for accuracy.....mine does seem to do quite well with it. You can use the same loading dies for all three also. I have a longer barrel max and it will shoot 1.5" groups with almost anything at 100 yds. and with some bullets a bit better. In a handgun length barrel it is a legitimate 150 yd. deer gun provided the shooter can make 150 yd. shots. There is alot of good information available on the 'net' about loading and shooting a .357 max as well.
